Services for Children with Disabilities
Improving
Access, Integration and Quality
Thursday
18th November 2004, IBIS Earls Court, London SW6
Following the roll out of Sure Start and with
the Children’s Bill under consideration, the emphasis is now on
the organisations involved in providing services to children with
disabilities to deliver the quality services that these vulnerable
children deserve. The responsibility is now with those professionals
working in health, education, and commerce to communicate and
implement a joined up strategy to ensure that the needs of children
with disabilities and learning difficulties are met.
Government policy is urging service providers
to consider whether joint funding and commissioning would enable
them to provide more integrated services for children with disabilities
and their families. Services also need to consider re-training
staff, recruitment and the recommended adjustments to facilities
as suggested in the Disability Discrimination Act (New Provisions
for 2004). This conference will explore
these issues further and share experiences of good practice, ensure
delegates are informed of new policy on accessibility, information
sharing and research based on responses from parents and children.
Speakers Include:
Lord Geoffrey Filkin CBE, Parliamentary Under-Secretary
of State, Department for Education and Skills (DfES)
Bryony Beresford, Senior Research Fellow,
Social Policy Research Unit,
University of York
Debbie Ladds, Director of Children's
Services, Whizz-Kidz
David Miller, Project Manager - Services
to Disabled Children and their Families, NSPCC
