14. Early Intervention seminar series

Bridget Jones, Regional Facilitator, West Midlands SEN Regional Partnership writes –

Early Intervention is a major thrust in the DfES SEN Strategy ‘ Removing Barriers to Achievement’.  This has been further reflected in the objectives of the West Midlands SEN Regional Partnership Action Plan 2004 – 05.  Similarly ‘Every Child Matters’ has a focus on early intervention in the proposals for the integration of children’s services.

It is proposed to hold a series of themed regional seminars to provide a common understanding of what is meant by early intervention within the European, National and Regional context and the implications for policy development for local authorities.  Seminars will enable colleagues to share information about major trends in development in a European and International context.  The seminar themes will re-visit current early intervention and examine national strategy exalting early intervention.

Sunfield Professional Development Centre (PDC) has been commissioned to organise this seminar series and Professor Barry Carpenter will act as Convenor.  Overleaf is an outline of the seminar series and its progression.  Seminar 1 has now occurred and laid the foundations for future seminars.  As soon as dates and venues are confirmed, colleagues will be circulated.  Bookings will go directly to Sunfield PDC – Tel.  No:  01562 883183 or email: rosew@sunfield.worcs.sch.uk
