The Social Care Institute for Excellence has
recently launched the outputs from a review of the information
needed by young people with learning difficulties, their families
and supporters at transition. The Road Ahead? project was undertaken
by the Norah Fry Research Centre, University of Bristol with young
people with learning difficulties from North Somerset People First
and the Home Farm Trust, a national service provider.
The project had three parts: a review of the
relevant literature; an evaluation of the content of resource
materials (like information packs) that have been developed to
support young people and their families during transition; focus
groups with young people, families and supporters to find out
their information needs.
The six outputs from The Road Ahead Project
can be downloaded from
www.scie.org.uk/tra.
The outputs include: A full report,
a systematic review of the literature on transition for young
people with learning difficulties, a review of the resources available
to support transition, an executive summary of the key findings,
an easy summary of the key findings and an easy report by the
North Somerset People First Transition Project Team. There
is also a website giving details of the work undertaken by the
Transition Project Team from North Somerset People First.
