3. “The Helping Relationship” – Places available

 ONE DAY CONFERENCE

 

The Helping Relationship

between practitioners and parents of babies & children who have disabilities / SEN

Monday 6th June, 2005  -  9.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

Newcastle United Football Club, St. James’ Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4ST

This conference is for everyone who works in some way with babies and children and their families in health, education and social services, and in the voluntary and private sectors in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

The helping relationship is fundamental to effective support for children and their families. Early intervention, assessment of need, family service plans, keyworking, neonatal services, pre-school support and early years education are all dependent on the relationship between practitioners and parents. The conference will discuss the nature of the helping relationship and how it can be fostered by all practitioners.

 

Professor Hilton Davis Director of The Centre for Parent and Child Support, South London & Maudsley NHS Trust, and Guy’s, Kings’ & St. Thomas’ School of Medicine, London, and author of Working in Partnership with Parents: The parent Adviser Model will speak on:

Dr. Philippa Russell CBE, Policy Adviser on Disability to National Children’s Bureau

& DfES, Commissioner with the Disability Rights Commission and parent of a son with a learning disability, will speak on:

Changing Children, Changing Services: Redefining parent participation and family support

 

Jenni Thomas OBE, Founder and President of The Child Bereavement Trust will speak on:

The Helping Relationship with parents of babies who have limited or uncertain life expectancy

 

Helen Geldard RGN RM MA (Education Studies & Autism), Co-ordinator of County Durham Autistic Support Group and parent of a child with ASD, will speak on:

Developing a Helping Relationship with parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders

 

Dr. Penny Lacey of the University of Birmingham’s School of Education and author of Support Partnerships: Collaboration in Action will speak on:

Working Together in Classrooms

 

Peter Limbrick had a brother with cerebral palsy and is author of Early Support for Children with Complex Needs: Team Around the Child and the Multi-agency Keyworker. He will speak on:

The Team-Around-the-Child approach: Enhanced relationships between practitioners and parents & between practitioners themselves

 

 

Costs: To facilitate group bookings, we are operating a sliding scale from

£190 for a single delegate to £110 each for groups of 5 delegates or more.
