22. London Conference – The Helping Relationship

The Helping Relationship
between practitioners and parents of babies & children who have disabilities / SEN

This conference is for everyone who works in some way with babies and children and their families in health, education and social services, and in the voluntary and private sectors in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

The helping relationship is fundamental to effective support for children and their families. Early intervention, assessment of need, family service plans, keyworking, neonatal services, pre-school support and early years education are all dependent on the relationship between practitioners and parents. The conference will discuss the nature of the helping relationship and how it can be fostered by all practitioners.

DR. PENNY LACEY, School of Education, University of Birmingham and author of Support Partnerships: Collaboration in Action, will speak on:
The Helping Relationship in Schools: Professionals Working with Children with Complex Needs and their Families

HELEN GELDARD RGN RM MA (Education Studies & Autism), Co-ordinator of County Durham Autistic Support Group and parent of a child with ASD, will speak on:
Developing a Helping Relationship with parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders

CHAIR: PETER LIMBRICK, Independent Consultant and author of Team Around the Child, An Integrated Pathway for Assessment and Support, and Early Support for Children with Complex Needs.

COSTS: Service and project are invited to send a group of delegates. In support of this we are offering a sliding scale of charges. Group bookings can, of course, include parents.
