together to get it right for every child: transdisciplinary working
for children and young people with communication disability
Friday 21 September 2007,
9.00am - 4.30pm
Edinburgh Conference Centre, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh
This conference considers the
challenges and opportunities faced by practitioners and managers
in working together to meet the needs of a diverse range of children
and young people with a communication disability. It will also
address supporting the learning and access to the curriculum
in a variety of mainstream settings.
This conference will explore the
principles and processes of transdisciplinary working as they
apply across all phases of education. Although there will be an
emphasis on the primary phase in some presentations, the conference
will also be of interest and relevance to staff working within
early years and secondary phases.
From
this conference, in relation to children and young people with
a communication disability, you will:
·
Gain an
overview of the direction and impact of the changes within children’s
services, additional support for learning and/or special educational
needs processes.
·
Hear current
thinking about approaches for meeting needs within mainstream
settings.
·
Learn
of practical projects achieving positive outcomes through transdisciplinary
working.
·
Explore
the roles within the multi-professional team in creating integrated
and effective provision e.g. teachers, speech and language therapists,
support assistants, educational psychologists, CAMHS, school leaders
and service managers.
·
Go away
with ideas of how to analyse/reflect on your own working practice
and how to work more closely and effectively with colleagues.
·
Gain an
understanding of the issues across the United
Kingdom.
