We
are pleased to invite you to nasen's Autumn Conference ‘Special
Schools Matter’, an event dedicated to the needs of Special Schools
and providers of specialist care for children and young people.
The
event brings together a range of esteemed speakers including Dr.
Michael Farrell, who will look at the changing role of Special
Schools. Bringing 25 years experience in special education, Dr.
Barry Carpenter OBE discusses the changing pattern of disability
that has occurred worldwide. These changes are not just attributable
to traditional causes such as Down’s Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy
but to an increased prevalence in conditions such as Fragile X
Syndrome and Foetal Alcohol Syndrome. Sadly some of the ‘new’
causes of disability are due purely to changes in social behaviour
towards alcohol, smoking and drugs, and are 100% preventable.
As
a practitioner, it is important for you to have a clear picture
of what the changing patterns are, so many of these themes will
be examined in greater detail at our seminar sessions led by a
range of renowned and stimulating speakers.
Additional
features: As
always this nasen conference provides great networking opportunities,
but also has the added benefit of running alongside ‘Special Needs
London’, also being held at the Business Design Centre on the
19th and 20th October.
