Feeling Safe is designed as a therapeutic group programme to help children and young people across a wide age range to explore their own experiences of domestic abuse and look at positive ways of dealing with feelings in a fun and creative way.

It details pre- and post-group activities and the 10 weekly sessions that make up the programme. These can be used in the order presented, as a whole or in parts. The exercises and information are flexible and facilitators may add their own materials. The material looks at:

§       what domestic abuse is

§       the theory of domestic abuse

§       how children/young people experience abuse

§       consequences of abuse and how to look after feelings safely

§       self-worth/self-esteem issues

§       assertiveness/confidence building and how to say ‘no’

§       support networks

§       the future.
