17. Chernobyl kids get help from The Children’s Trust

The Ukraine’s only rehabilitation centre for children living with the effects of the Chernobyl radioactive disaster has received an equipment boost thanks to Surrey-based charity The Children’s Trust.

Standing frames, wheelchairs and bath aids have recently been donated by The Children’s Trust to The Centre of Medical Social Rehabilitation of Disabled Children (Revival) in Chernigov, Ukraine. The equipment is no longer able to support the very complex needs of the children attending the Trust but is still suitable for use at the Revival centre which helps children and young people who have sustained a disability following the Chernobyl disaster.

Over the last two years the Revival centre has re-homed equipment including bicycles, a soft play room and a hospital bed. The centre does not have access to specialist equipment, instead relying on donations from organisations such as the Trust, or trying to revamp redundant pieces. It does not cost the Trust to donate the equipment and it is a unique way of recycling.

Helen Miles, Head of Physiotherapy at The Children’s Trust, said:

We are really pleased to be able to help children in the Ukraine access specialist equipment to help them with their rehabilitation programmes. Thank you to Felstead Aid for Children based in Essex who transport all of our equipment to the Ukraine for us free of charge.

Dr Vasil Pasichnick from the Revival centre said:

On behalf of the disabled children and children who suffered from the Chernobyl catastrophe thank you very much for your generous donation and your support.
