13. Changing Faces – Education Training 09/10

Changing Faces is the leading charity working with and on behalf of all people affected by disfigurement. One in 500 children or young people in the UK have a significant facial disfigurement, with one in 100 having a noticeable feature on their face or body. Combining wide-ranging research findings with extensive case-work, training and consultancy in schools, Changing Faces provides practical and effective expertise in this challenging area.

Equalities legislation, ECM outcomes and the best educational aims require all schools to:

·       Enable any pupil with a visible difference to enjoy and achieve at school, socially as well as educationally.

·       Promote positive attitudes towards people with disfigurements among all pupils and staff.

Our training will enable teachers, SENCOs, educational psychologists, teaching assistants, LSAs, early years professionals and senior managers to understand psychological and social approaches to disfigurement. It will help you to create an inclusive environment, and overcome barriers to learning, including low-self esteem, social withdrawal and bullying, which are associated with visible difference.
